The ‘Mash is taking a few Moons off

Dearest ‘Mashers,

Thanks for riding with us this season! There won’t be a ‘Mash this moon. Why not celebrate moonrise another way?

There are innumerable websites for tracking lunar cycles. Pick one and plug in your location to know when the full moon will rise for you.

If you really want to nerd out, take note of things like Altitude and Heading, which will tell you exactly where in the sky the moon will pop up. Altitude measures the moon’s height above the horizon in degrees, with 90° being straight up. Heading measures the circumference of the horizon in degrees, with 90° being due East. For example, in Eugene, “moonrise” is indicated at 4:23 pm, but that’s when it crests the “true” horizon, or zero degrees. It won’t crest the apparent horizon until about 5:0 pm, when its Altitude will be 5°. At that time, its heading will be 63°; if due East is “3 o’ clock” on the compass then the moon will pop up closer to “2 o’ clock” (at 5 pm). Not confusing at all.

Consider taking an urban hike, or organizing your own group ride.

There are also a bunch of other folks putting on neat bike events in and around Eugene. Check out Eugene Bike Polo, Safety Third, BOB rides, Klink Cycles, Emerald Valley BMX, GEARs, Dirt Maidens, Disciples of Dirt, and Team Dirt.

AwoooOOOooo!

Friday, June 21 at 9:30 pm; Solstice ‘Mash

It’s the first Friday of summer and (almost) the longest day of the year! Stay out late to see the moon rise! The shortest night of the year just means the fun is more concentrated.

Moonlight Mash is music-fueled social celebration of cycling that rides from Kesey Square every lunar cycle. Learn more about the route and how we ride on our About page.

RSVP on the facepage. Tag us and your friends on the ‘gram. The Party Trike will be there for you and your friends to perform all your summer karaoke jams: if you’d like to perform, please sign up in advance.

Wednesday, May 22, 8:30 pm: Moonlight Mash is for the birds & bike path Karaoke

Wednesday 5/22; 8:30 pm; Kesey Square

Birds of a feather ride bikes together! Come out for our May is Bike Month bike party under the full moon! Aligning with the theme for this month’s events, the theme for outfits and playlists is BIRDS!

Inspired by @etrikekaraoke, we’ll be trying out Bike Path Karaoke this ‘Mash! If you would like to perform, please sign up in advance: we need to know what song(s) you would like to perform, and you need to know a few details about how we’ll be rotating performers on and off the Party Trike during the ride.

On this moon’s ride, we’ll debut our new route, which features a little extra length and fewer traffic lights.

Moonlight Mash is music-fueled social celebration of cycling that rides from Kesey Square every lunar cycle. We observe Oregon’s stop-as-yield law and wait at all red lights. The route and pace are friendly to all kinds of riders.
